We are absolutely delighted to announce that the ADDISCOMBE RECREATION GROUND (aka Bingham Park) GARDENING GROUP has been shortlisted to receive a cash award as part of the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
We are one of only three groups in the region to be shortlisted and between 1st to 25th February you can make a difference by voting for us.
Tesco teamed up with the charity Groundwork to launch the monthly funding scheme, with grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 awarded to local outdoor community projects. The grants have been raised from the 5p bag levy.
Since the Gardening Group was formed in early 2016, local residents and park users have praised the work that that has been started on the flowerbeds. But the Group has ambitious plans to further enhance and improve the beds which had been neglected over a number of years.
The Bags of Help grant will give much needed funding, allowing the gardeners to introduce a planting scheme for year round interest and restoring the flowerbeds to their former glory. They also wish to erect trellis to support climbing plants along the stone wall and improve the appearance of the borders with attractive and protective fencing.
The group will continue to organise special events to ensure park users and local residents are able to support and enjoy the improvements, bringing together the community in this much used park.
So how and where can you vote?
Customers can cast their vote using a token given to them at the checkout each time they shop at one of 28 local Tesco stores. The area covered is quite wide, so do encourage friends and family locally to support our project. Post it on your Facebook page and twitter accounts. £1,000 would be a fantastic boost, but think about all the improvements that could be made with £2,500 or even £5,000!
