A check with our resident cat owners on the village. There is a grey cat visiting the Aster House close to the synagogue. It is friendly enough but we are worried it might be homeless at the moment.
If you know of this cat or its owner please notify us using the contact page here.
To coincide with the first Sunday walk in August residents visited the Shirley Windmill. We were welcomed by the representatives of the Friends of Shirley Windmill on the day. The volunteers took us to the visitors centre and provided a preliminary presentation to the history of the windmill.
Residents were able to enter the windmill and go up to the top. There are several levels where we were given an insight into the working of the windmill.
The photos show some of the views we saw on the visit, part of the heritage of the Croydon area, past times.
SOVRA’s annual summer event for 2026 took place and billed as picnic & games in the village.
Residents came together on a hot sunny Saturday afternoon to enjoy some fresh air, our green-land space and share time together over an afternoon of food, drink & games.
Our committee have been really pleased to see residents and passers by getting involved on the day.
This year residents took part in some games – egg & spoon race, 3 legged race, hoop throwing and, in keeping with this year’s World Cup a beat the goalkeeper event. We are really thankful for the goalkeeper who is one of our committee members nephew who traveled up all the way from the south coast area to take part on the day. Participants ranged from little children to our keen mature residents. A member of our committee was luck enough to donate the spectacular prizes on the day. Thank you.
A thank you to committee members who prepared and looked after the tea & coffee & light refreshments.
SOVRA will be looking to planning next year’s event. Feel free to post a comment below on ideas to include for next year and thoughts on this year’s event.
